You labeled the pic '... from the Millennium Tower' but the MT once
planned for London was never built; the really big tower at Portsmouth
is the Spinnaker.

The waterfront and Portsmouth Harbour are dominated by the Spinnaker
Tower, one of the United Kingdom's tallest structures at 560 feet
(170 m).
The London Millennium Tower was one of several ideas for the site of
the former Baltic Exchange at 30 St Mary Axe, City of London that had
been destroyed beyond repair by a Provisional IRA bomb blast.
Status Never built
Alternative names Millennium Tower
Portsmouth's Millennium Tower, as it was originally intended to be
named, was a project conceived in 1995 to design a monument to
commemorate the Millennium celebrations in the year 2000.[8] It
received UK National Lottery funding and was intended to open in late
1999.
The tower was dedicated on 16 October 2005 and opened two days
later.

Personally, I think Spinnaker is a better name for it.

/I/ wasn't.

Also, in your pic you can see the HMS Victory surrounded by those old
red 18th century bldgs one w/ a white clock tower just beyond which is
the Victory. It isn't afloat; dry docked.

The newer gray roundish bldg near it is the Mary Rose Museum. In an
earlier pic it was older, smaller, rectangular, and had a white roof.
The MRM has a website and a virtual tour.

done a tad bit of "over" sharpening, but I did not download the image and do

LOL! I didn't do any sharpening, Eagle Eye ;) I did what I said, save
for adding a touch of blue to the sky, which wasn't sharpened, either.
What you call "sharpening" is a byproduct of grabbing the colors that
were *already* available (this provided a contrast that was lacking
becuase it was so washed out).

The free Windows image editor, IrfanView, has a menu option to "auto
adjust colors". One click took 15 secs to produce a result very close
to yours (just slightly more green left in). Not bad on a 1.74 MB jpeg
on this old machine.

Exactly. There are a few ways to accomplish this 'work'. For me, the
first step is often those balance points... which, as I said, are 'soft'
(meaning that the default values used by the PS droppers are not used by
me because what they produce doesn't 'blend' well).

DB may not have, doesn't involved much in the way of "feel", nor does
clicking the points I choose, which is done visually. This isn't like
drawing on an iPad, where there is "feel" to the stylus, there's
virtually no hand/eye coordination involved, it's just selecting points
by using your sight (that pixel looks to be the 'blackest', this one
looks to be the 'whitest'). If you consider that a "feel"... you do you

No, for me it's stricly visual.

That is what I meant when I said "by feel". You do it visually, and have a

I do not recall the shadow/highlights adjustment tool in Photoshop to work the
way you describe. Been a long time since I used it though. Photopea certainly
does not work that way, and it is very much like Photoshop.

To me it sounds like you are describing something closer to the Hue/Saturation
tool than the Shadow/Highlight tool. Again, though, it's been a long time.

Did you feed that site the original as you recv'd it from Jon as
opposed to what one could dl from the imgur.com site? That is, imgur
may strip the exif/meta data.
'We' only had what was available from imgur, not the Jon-sourced .jpg.
EXIF data/metadata is removed from all images upon upload. There is
no setting available to retain the data.
