For those interested in the geography/geology, the wp article on barrier
islands is of interest.

My experience has been TX extensive Padre Island, from one end to the
other; and being 'Texan'...

Padre Island is the largest of the Texas barrier islands and the world's longest barrier island.

I would say the most of that time near Corpus Christi.
