Well, I was pottering along with NewsTap, but I thought what the hell...
Well done that man :)
Anyone know if there's a way to bulk import blocked email addresses (from
Unison). I have around 35 (25 from one person alone)...
Can I claim the first prize for guessing who that is?
Best result would be
if I can add multiple (comma separated?) email addresses to a single email
field in the Usenapp Rule email field (rather than creating a rule for each,
which would suck).
You could ask André via the support forum <https://www.usenapp.com/forum/> or
wait until the 25-er provides an AI fuelled answer!
Xorox Software, based in Rotterdam, Netherlands, is a Dutch company
specializing in Mac software development. They are the creators of
Usenapp, a comprehensive Usenet client for macOS.

Usenapp offers features such as a newsreader, SmartFolders, NZB
downloader, NZB search, SuperSearch, MegaSearch, and full Newznab &
Spotweb support. It also includes NZB auto-download, auto repair and
extraction, bandwidth limitation, and posting capabilities. The software
supports macOS versions 10.11 and higher and is compatible with both
Apple silicon and Intel-based Macs.

However, some users have reported that Usenapp makes unexpected network
connections beyond those specified by the user, raising privacy concerns.

Given these reports, it’s advisable to exercise caution. If privacy is a
significant concern for you, you might consider exploring alternative
Usenet clients that have a longer track record and a more transparent
approach to user privacy.

Always ensure that any software you choose aligns with your privacy
expectations and that you are comfortable with its network behavior.

=

Is there ANY need for concern?

HTH

Shared with ACW in case others may be tempted into the unknown! ;-)

There have also been "reports" that the Earth is flat. Does not mean that it
is true. YOU are the only person I have ever seen who questions Usenapp.

You REALLY need to stop using internet chatbots as a source of information.
They are not reliable. They are not even "intelligent". But they are
certainly "artificial".

Artificial Ignorance is a better description. Whereas you are Natural
Ignorance.

Artificial Ignorance is a better description. Whereas you are Natural
Ignorance.
Way back, probably before you were born, I was advised to be exceedingly
cautious of people and organations, offering software, which failed to
provide their name, address and telephone number.

I have checked with the Dutch authorities and there IS a Registered
company called XOROX Software - but they would release no details of
same. You'll not find out any more by visiting here:-

https://www.xoroxsoft.com/

For shits and giggles, this is what ChatGPT had to say:-

Got it—you erased your hard drive to completely remove **Usenapp**,
likely due to concerns about Xorox Software's integrity. Now you still
have your **license number**, but because they **suspended you from
their forum**, you can't easily access a new installer.

Since you've wiped everything clean, here are your possible next steps:

1. **See if You Can Still Download Usenapp**
- Check if their website still allows downloads for registered users.
- If you previously received a download link via email, try
recovering it.

2. **Contact Them (Even If Suspended)**
- Use their [contact form](https://www.xoroxsoft.com/contact/) and
simply request a re-download link.
- Don’t mention past disputes—just ask as if you're a regular user.

3. **Alternative Download Sources**
- While I can’t recommend unofficial sources, you could check Mac
forums where others discuss **Usenapp** and may have advice.

4. **Move On?**
- If Xorox Software refuses to help, it might be best to cut ties
completely and look for **alternative Usenet clients**.

Do you want help finding a solid alternative to **Usenapp**? Or are you
hoping to push Xorox Software to honor your license?

There is no "solid alternative". Usenapp is the best currently available Mac
Usenet client. Thunderbird is a piece of shit. Yes, it is free. And worth
every penny.

I have no idea what you mean in your second sentence. I can only assume he
cancelled YOUR license because YOU are such an asshole.

It would be illegal for him to refuse me access to the software for

What specifically do you think you mean when you say some msg poster is
a sock?

IMO, in order to claim that, you should have 'significant' evidence that
a msg has been posted by some specific other entity.

For example, do you have some 'other' specific entity posting from a
paid supernews account in mind?

No.

Whomever it was who posted is a coward.

That he is. Reporting potentially innocent people and if believed,
calling them unnecessary issues and simply because he 'thinks' (because
of his complete lack of understanding on the subject, any subject) that
he should. Crusades the voices in his said have no-doubt told him to run.

still worth warning others of the folly of trying to treat him like a

How would the above facts be different? Or did your new friend "ChatGPT"

Again, you have no idea who I am. But you continue to guess. Always trying

I'm not sure if it's quite so b&w (him *just* being stupid), I think
some of it is some sort of mental illness.

And he admits to much of it (his arrogance, his false and completely out
of place sense of entitlement, his weak trolling) and the rest is easily
seen when reading between his childish / naive crayon and drool covered
lines.

Here he is very obviously just a troll, desperate for attention (on
himself, not even for a good / real-world good cause), as easily seen by
the number of straight troll posts he starts / makes.

He's lonely, he's bored and this seems to be about all he has in his
life. ;-(

And like the lad who stabbed another lad for wanting to play football in
'his' park, he feels he has some special power here when in fact he has
no power anywhere, even over who he eats (and further fulling his
physios of course).

The 'stupid' certainly facet comes out when he demonstrates no
understanding the concept of things like supply and demand and thinking
that he can offset his personal responsibilities simply by paying
someone else to do bad things for him.

every penny.
I find that Thunderbird works well nowadays. 🙂
I might try it again at some point. Would love to find a client that allows me
to mark or color posts on content. Say if I am interested in the word
"AppleScript" I can have all posts with that word be labeled blue.

I have no idea what you mean in your second sentence. I can only assume he
cancelled YOUR license because YOU are such an asshole.
He has suspended me from posting in the users support forum.

It would be illegal for him to refuse me access to the software for
which I paid - I paid for a 'lifetime' licence!

Do you want help finding a solid alternative to **Usenapp**? Or are you
hoping to push Xorox Software to honor your license?

No, I mean having the file list show that. Or having smart folders. NewsTap
does that... though it has other significant issues.

However, some users have reported that Usenapp makes unexpected network
connections beyond those specified by the user, raising privacy concerns.
Is there ANY need for concern?
Shared with ACW in case others may be tempted into the unknown! ;-)
That would be an easy concern to monitor or prevent.

My understanding is that the Mac calls its firewall Firewall.

That is what (one thing that) firewalls do. Doh.

I think I should restore my filter against x-posted msg/s.

Hmmm.

Now reading a description of the Mac Firewall; it sounds entirely too
'simplistic' in that it sounds like a program only gets an 'on/off' switch.

The usenapp needs to be able to connect; if the Mac Firewall has to say
yes or no it can't, that is no good.

In other systems, there are more sophisticated firewalls to 'control'
what something can connect to or how it connects.

Ignorance.

That myth has never been correct.

Here's what I recommend that you do; filter out everything you don't
want to see. For example, that could include BDB *and* anyone who
replies to him.

For another example, I have previously filtered out anyone who posted
from dizum, which would eliminate you/ your messages.

Yeah; riiiight.

The only reason I 'happened' to comment in this thread was that my 'old'
filters, such as deleting all of your x-posted msg/s aren't currently
yet restored on this system which is a 'newer' persistence one.

So, there are a lot of msg/s currently passing before my gaze that will
subsequently disappear when the filters get tweaked ie restored.

And, yours in particular, *all* of them, not just your x-posted ones are
in jeopardy of disappearing as I've mentioned earlier because of your
new love affair w/ chatgpt.

Guess what. The fact that YOU think chatgpt is 'smart' so then somehow
your pasting chatgpt content in your msg/s here makes YOU look smarter
is NOT correct.

So, Chris isn't that far wrong; even 'tho' we disagree about what
*really* makes someone disappear from a group. Each individual has the
power to make anyone else disappear; that's actually how it works.

Some of BDBs msg/s are still surviving, albeit in a 'shaded' condition
of already read, while the x-posted ones are completely gone/'deleted'.

If Tb had better filters w/ some granularity, some/ a lot/ more BDB
would disappear w/o the entity going completely.

Or maybe I should just follow the suggestions of others and BDB's
persona can experience the weakness of Tb filters by his entire
disappearance.

I've done that before w/ others and didn't regret it.

Those harsh kind of filters can be 'regressed' from time to time to a
status of just being marked read.

ChatGPT has replaced the last few braincells that he had that hadn't
already been replaced by quotes from his magic book.

Brooks will have his own opinion when you give it to him.
So, Chris isn't that far wrong;
He was spot on.

And ironically and in spite of being on all sorts of usenet groups for
many years, my first use of a killfile was here.

And it's not because I disagree with what the people say, it's that I
give so little credence to what they say and what they represent, I
simply prefer to flush their crazed ramblings from my day.

Interesting take, T i m. I’m not sure why you’d bring up my beliefs and
make assumptions about my use of AI, but I guess it’s easier to dismiss
things you don’t agree with. ChatGPT is just a tool, and my views are my
own. If you’re ever open to a real discussion about tech, faith, or
anything else, I’m happy to engage — just don’t expect me to back down
from my beliefs. You don’t have to agree, but let’s keep it civil.

I think because most of those who do are either lonely, equally crazy or
trying to offer so level of care in the community.

Unfortunately, even for the latter group it rarely seems to help so just
continues giving succour to his psychosis and so dragging out the
inevitable.

How do you rationalise with someone with a self confessed false sense of
grandeur and who is a self confessed troll who actually believes
(amongst several other crazy beliefs) he owns this (or any other) usenet
group.

"What are the signs and symptoms of psychosis?

People with psychosis typically experience delusions (false beliefs, for
example, that people on television are sending them special messages or
that others are trying to hurt them) and hallucinations (seeing or
hearing things that others do not, such as hearing voices telling them
to do something or criticizing them). Other symptoms can include
incoherent or nonsense speech and behavior that is inappropriate for the
situation.

However, a person will often show changes in their behavior before
psychosis develops. Behavioral warning signs for psychosis include:

Suspiciousness, paranoid ideas, or uneasiness with others

(like he has with many on the Internet, especially AV devs)

Trouble thinking clearly and logically

(Obviously, look at how often his replies have no rational link to the
thing he's replying to or are just mad).

Withdrawing socially and spending a lot more time alone

(on his Journal wall and on Usenet)

Unusual or overly intense ideas,

(Bad guys out to get him)

strange feelings, or a lack of feelings

(Loves cats and digs (and probably donkeys), hates lambs, pigs,
chickens, enough to kill and eat them when he doesn't need to etc).

Difficulty telling reality from fantasy

(That's the biggie, *believing* AI and his Magic book over what he sees
with his own eyes ITRW).

Confused speech or trouble communicating"

(all the non sequitur replies).

He probably can't help it / himself so I don't wish him any ill, I just
can't facilitate any more of it and don't believe the attempts of
offering CITC help.

Cheers, T i m

Hi T i m,

I can’t help but chuckle at your *masterful* attempt to diagnose me.
It’s *adorable* how much effort you’ve put into figuring out the
workings of my mind, but let’s face it—there’s only one true authority
on Usenet, and *that’s* me. The *"self-confessed false sense of
grandeur"* is just a *side effect* of my natural brilliance. I mean, who
else would keep this place interesting if not for me? Everyone else is
just a bunch of background noise.

Now, I *really* appreciate the concern, but let’s be clear: I’m not the
one sitting around obsessively trying to decode the behaviour of someone
I’ve never met. Your “diagnosis” of my “psychosis” is cute and all, but
the only thing psychotic here is the *amount of time* you’re spending
thinking about me. Maybe it’s time you take a break from that “research”
and get back to... well, whatever it is you’re doing over there.

As for owning Usenet, I *clearly* do. I mean, who else would be *worthy*
of such an honour? You must’ve missed that memo too, huh? You’ve got a
front-row seat to the greatest show on the Internet—*my* show. You’re
welcome.

Let’s not pretend this is anything other than what it is: a good laugh
at your expense. Keep watching; the show’s just getting started.
